Dark Action

Best Villain ever! Darkest, most unique amazing action film!
You dont need to see Batman Begins, you'll catch it all up in this one!

Its got great reviews for great reasons.!

Everyone in the UK should see and love this, and NOT keep seeing a Abba songs only film (opps oh yeah its meant to have a story line and not just be about the songs, but it isn't!) If you want a girlie film i recommend the duchess... Mamma Mia got mixed reviews, most bad. Dark Knight positive and the duchess positive!!

You will see the light...the dark light!

Where do you begin when you try to write about a movie that has been rated the No1 of all time by quarter of a million people on IMDB.com? Well firstly I'll start off with what it is. And that is an intricate, realistic, clever and damn right bad-a5s action film that makes a lot of other so called blockbusters of today look absolutely shabby by comparison.

What it isn't however is a re-hash, a re-make or a replay of any previous superhero movie.

Everything here is spot on, the story is well done - loyal enough to the Batman legend to keep the comic nerds happy, but different enough to make it a justified sequel. The action is unreal and real - what I mean by that is, you wont believe your eyes at some of the stuff they pull off, it's truly amazing, but also it's done in a way that is realistic - although far out, you can believe that with enough money behind someone with military technology, an American loon like Bruce Wayne could infact drive that monster truck around sweeping up crime, and of course there's never any doubt that another American loon, in this case a crazy scar-faced guy who laughs a lot could walk the streets and that between the two of them this stuff could happen!

The actors, from the leads to the support are all class, I mean come on where else could you find Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman to name a few, in one movie? And on top of that, none of them are lead roles! I mean these guys all carved out almost legendary status in their careers to date, and they are mere support acts in this film - I mean how do you select a leading man top these? Well, I'll tell you how...you cast the man of many facades, the always reliable Christian Bale (who is currently carving out his legacy) and then trump him twofold with an immense Heath Ledger.

Now - how this guy who came from humble films such as 10 Things I hate about you to this I'll never know (Brokeback excluded) - His twitchy, lispy, psycho turn is as good as you'll ever see...anywhere. It really is that amazing.

Forget Nicholson as the Joker, infact forget him in The Shining as well...and `Cuckoo's Nest...well actually any role where he's played a nutter, Ledger is just truly mental, every little twitch and eyelid flutter is so convincing you won't believe that he could have all of a sudden dropped this effort in at this point of his career, it's such a shame he never got a chance to see it finished.

Away from the acting, the characters' development are really interesting, I spent most of the film just itching to see what the Joker would do next, his initial introduction is truly wicked, if ever you were thinking he couldn't fill the jokers clown shoes or maybe you were thinking this would be a jokey-Joker, this scene clears that up straight away. From then onwards he commands every scene that he's in, and you'll be dying to see what's next, it's that simple.

The story of Batman also really moves on, if you think back to the four Bat-flicks of the 80's - 90's, each one just merely slapped another villain infront of him to overcome and that was that. In this movie it shoves him down a different direction and really pushes him foward, Bruce Wayne included, and it feels more full because of it - I won't go into it too much because it will only ruin the film for people who've not seen it yet but he truly becomes the Dark Knight of the title.

Add on to this the introducion of Two Face, as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Eric Roberts and even Scarecrow from 'Begins' and you really have got an array of characters packed in tighter than a cumberland sausage.

With all this waffle of actors, acting and characters you could be forgiven for thinking I was reviewing a Shakespear adaptation, when the truth is this is an action film through and through...and believe me it has it, and in spades!
Each action setpiece is mega as you would expect but it also delivers some crackers that you wouldn't, that's what makes it so cool, it achieves on so many levels...there is one scene where somebody blows something up and much like an opening scene in From Dusk Til Dawn, it's filmed in one continous shot with the 'someone' is walking away from it blowing in the background, well this has got to be one of my favourite scenes of the film, and no doubt there was some pressure on it because there was no chance of a second take - it's insane! you'll love it, i bet the extra features of the DVD will pay a mention to this bad boy!

So in summary, roll on part 3, but beware, because it's gunna have a lot to live up to...

brilliant.

oh wow!!! after the terrific batman begins, this goes even better!! this is a classic, classic movie. far more than a mere superhero film, and i am a fan of the genre, so i'm not knocking it! this is more like a crime movie in the style of heat or the departed that just happens to be about a man dressing up as a bat to fight crime.
although heath ledger's performance is as good as you've heard, everyone else is equally as good as well. this isn't just heath's movie!! he does deserve the oscar nom, but i get the feeling sadly that he'll only get nominated because of his death as let's face it, the academy are snobs. no way would they give oscars to a batman film, no matter how good it was!! if he hadn't died, i seriously doubt they'd have been talking about oscars. his joker makes jack nicholson's joker look as about convincing as arnold schwarzzenneggar's mr. freeze from the dreadfull batman and robin, and up till now, i thought jack nicholson was the best joker!!
brilliant performances, christian bale must be the best batman ever, michael caine terrific. this is brilliant. not sure about the 12 a it got at the cinema, should have been a 15 i think as it is quite violent for young kids. sheer genius, best comic book movie ever made and will probably become one of my all time fave movies as well. this and batman begins are what all future superhero movies must try and be like.

Mr. Nolan PLEASE READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love The Dark Knight it is one of the greatest movies of my time (I am post Empire Srikes Back but your movie is easily on par as far as sequels go!!) Please don't let this be the end of the Joker. I know Heath Ledger died and you don't want anyone to take over his performance but what would it have been like if Darth Vader was not in Return of the Jedi. As bad a movie as the Ewoks made it, it was still good because of the resolution thst was given to Vader and Lukes story arc. Please give that resolution to Batman and the Jokers story arc!!! Please don't do a Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Cher as Catwoman story (it is far to obvious for you!!!) PLEASE MR. NOLAN!!!! CONCLUDE YOUR JOKER ARC!!!! I BEG OF YOU!!!

If you haven't seen it yet, you really should do!

An absolutely brilliant film - definitely 5star worthy. Despite the tragic loss of Heath Ledger, this has not put people off -- on the other hand, they were literally blown away by his spectacular performance, which most will remember him for.

Bale was also an excellent actor in the film, but one of the things people found annoying was his raspy voice (which others have defined as guttoral sounds) - I will admit I was slightly suprised at the voice Batman issued out but nevertheless, the film was ingenius. Perfect.

Aaron, Maggie and the other actors also portrayed their roles spendidly, making the viewer more and more interested with the storyline.

The 2011 movie will be interesting too, with Angelina Jolie as Catwoman, Johnny Depp as the Riddler, and a guy from Mission Impossible 3 playing the Penguin. Will an increase on villians be the next movies downfall? Who knows - all I can say is, if you haven't seen TDK yet, get yourself down to your local Cinema, buy a ticket, and let yourself be blown away.
